Exceptional content creation and outsourcing
If you’re spending time or money building some truly exceptional content, you’ll want to get the most bang for your buck. If you take the time to research and put together an “ultimate guide” on a topic, for example, you can post it on your website as a big authority article.
But it’s a waste not to then take that content and transform into other formats that are extremely useful and shareable. You could take your guide and convert into other formats, like infographics, videos, or podcasts.
There are so many formats for content that I find it amazing that so many marketers don’t take advantage of what they’ve already got. The information is there, all you have to do it build it into different formats.
This is useful for your audience because you’re giving them a lot of ways to absorb the information, and it’s good for your marketing strategy because you’ve got a way to get your brand out there for links and traffic.
You might object that you don’t have all the time it takes to not only write the valuable content but also to shape it into various formats. That’s why I want to tell you a little about outsourcing.
Outsourcing is a must in our line of work, and the outsourcing site you choose to use can make a huge difference. Right now, one of my favorite services is Upwork.
There are a number of reasons Upwork stands out among so many of these services.
It allows a great degree of oversight.
You can create teams, review work diaries, see the exact hours your team works, and generate data about your project in real time.
You can even receive screenshots throughout the day to see how your team is working and review their progress.
So, to help you get started with Upwork, here are some of my favorite tips:
- Starting New Projects
Make sure, when you post your first projects, that the descriptions are very clear, and that you list all tasks needed to complete the project. Don’t give away every nitty gritty detail, but be clear about the nature of the project so that you can attract the right talent for the job.
Always discuss specific technology and expertise that you need them to have, as well as the actual tasks the contractor will need to do when they work with you.
Additionally, as you get applicants, filter them down, making sure you get someone with good English skills and a high job success rate. Read their profile to get an idea of their communication skills, and to see how relevant they are for your job.
- Hourly Limits
Always know exactly what you’ll be paying for a project before anything gets started.
I recommend starting with a single small project and then working your way up to bigger projects from there.
Also, don’t allow billing of “off-Upwork” or manual hours with any new contractors.
If you get lax on how much you spend per day, you can quickly start paying more than you’re making.
Eventually, this will be much easier to keep track of, but for now, just be vigilant.
- Have a source of income you can use to cover this expense
Don’t Hire with Your Own Money. By that I mean don’t outsource projects to people unless you have a source of income that you can use to cover their expenses. Paying an Upwork bill out of your own pocket can quickly ruin your efforts.
- Be Very Specific
When you start a project, the description might be general, with only a few detailed aspects listed in the job posting. However, as you move along and your freelancer gets started, break it down into small, easy-to-follow tasks.
Be timely in delivering feedback so you don’t hold up your own project.
The clearer you are with your instructions, the easier it’ll be for your freelancer to deliver exactly what you’re after the first time around.
- Hiring a Project Manager
If you push your efforts to a larger scale and hire someone to manage your projects, make sure they have outstanding communications skills from the start. They should ideally be able to report to you daily without bringing problems or issues to your desk.
- Mobile App
Upwork also has an iPhone app. That’s a good thing for you, because you can actually check
on the progress for any work done by your team quickly and easily from your phone. Upwork has already changed how thousands of marketers get important work done every day.
If you’re not one of those thousands, I wholly recommend you get over to Upwork’s site and sign up for your account immediately. The options you’ll gain, the freedom you’ll enjoy, and the profit potential that presents itself will all make it very much worth your while.
